Soy has been cultivated for over 5000 years and is extremely diverse in its uses. Besides being a well known food source, soy can be used for fuel, plastic, paint, ink, and of course fabric. Soy fibers are generated from the waste left over through tofu, and other soybean made products. The hulls of the soybean are liquefied, and then extruded into long continuous fibers that enable them to be cut and processed like any other spinning fabric. A key environmental advantage of the fibers (natural) high protein count is its receptivity to natural dyes. In addition, as with Bamboo, Soy drapes well, and has a beautiful silky-cashmere like feel. |
